The day started off in every way I could imagine. Smiles and laughter filled the air, Dunkin Donut coffees were sipped, and Taylor Swift played in the background, while Ania and her sister belted out every single word. (Even when they didn’t always know the words.)
At this part of the day I typically tuck myself in a corner and start photographing bridal details. It’s during this time that I also get the chance to meet all of the people that are closest to my couple. Tyler and Ania truly have some of the most welcoming family. Ania’s grandmother sat next to me while I photographed. She shared stories, talked about all her grandchildren, and pointed out that the earrings I was placing, were the same ones that she had worn on her wedding day. Then Ania’s mom wore them, and now Ania would be putting them on.
But the earrings weren’t the only special part of the day. Tyler and Ania were getting married just one day after Ania’s parents wedding anniversary. And it was in the same exact location, Ania’s grandparents. I promise this isn’t even the sweetest part of the day! For that, we have to jump to the first looks.
As I finished photographing Tyler and his groomsmen, I was told that Tyler’s mom wanted to do a first look with him. So I set the stage and let his mom know it was time. The outpouring of love that was felt had everyone in tears. It was truly and incredibly sweet moment between the two.
Now, it was Ania’s turn. I sent Tyler away, and brought out the father of the bride. As Ania stepped out onto the porch you could see her dad beaming with pride. This was his little princess and he would soon be handing her off to the love of her life. It’s easily going to be one of his best Father’s Day gifts.
And now, the big one. I set Tyler on the porch and asked if he was ready. This is when the nerves came out. I love when I see my grooms get nervous. It’s the sweetest thing. I brought Ania out and I don’t think I could find bigger smiles than the ones these two shared. They embraced, twirled, and soaked in the moment of just the two of them. This is why I love first looks. It breaks the nerves, and gives my couples a moment that is just for them.
A ceremony followed just shortly after. It was small and intimate, and the love was loud. And then, they were husband and wife.
We all celebrated with a champagne toast, and some homemade cake. The newlyweds took time to mingle and celebrate with family members before we headed off to the big party at Murray’s in downtown Menominee.
The celebration continued with amazing food from Spork Catering, heartfelt speeches from the families, and epic dance moves on the main floor. This was one truly amazing wedding. But the part that I will remember the most are the families. Both Ania & Tyler’s families are nothing shy of amazing. They are kind, generous, and welcoming. I truly felt like I was one of them. They were just as excited as the bride and groom were, which created more joy than one can really imagine.
As cliche as it sounds, it truly was a day filled with love and happiness. Tyler and Ania are a one of a kind match, and I am so grateful that I was able to play a small role in their special day. Their future together will be nothing shy of epic.
